When the large wheel is used together with a rotating platform, they provide a dramatic demonstration of the principles of gyroscopic motion at relatively low rotational velocities. Two firm fitted handgrips are provided to hold the wheel which rotates on a ball bearing axle. To prevent accidental contact when the wheel is being held, a protective metal shield is attached to both sides of the wheel. The supplied cord is used to spin the wheel from stationary.

The 'Gyroscope Wheel' is a modified bicycle wheel with protection discs at the handles so the hands of the user cannot touch the spokes. The wheel is good as a gyroscope because the most mass is on the outer edge of the wheel (the tyre). On one side of the axle, a special pulley is fitted to permit the winding around of a strong cord. When the wheel is held by its axles and a second person pulls firmly and steadily on the cord, the wheel is spun up to high speed. As the user tries to change direction of the fast spinning wheel, the actions of the gyroscope begin. If the user is standing on the Rotating Platform (GYRP), the user will turn on the platform in sympathy with the amazing gyroscopic forces.
