Chilean Earthquake Global Catastrophe

Located in the most dangerous part of the Pacific Ocean's infamous Ring of Fire, Chile is hit by more earthquakes than any other place in the world. But nothing would prepare her citizens for the quake that struck on May 22, 1960. It measured 9.5 on the Richter Scale and triggered tsunamis and volcanic activity which killed 7,000 people. The first sign of the quake actually took place on May 21st. The residents of Concepci??n, the country's second largest city, awoke to a massive quake registering 7.5 on the Richter Scale. Ordinarily this would count as a major seismic event but far more damaging surprises were just around the corner. Indeed the following day, after a series of low-grade shocks, the big one struck at roughly 3 p.m. This monster came in at 9.5 on the Richter Scale and lasted for an astounding three full minutes. The first quake had ravaged the city of Concepci??n, but this new quake devastated the entire southern region of the country ...and the damage had not yet finished. This is the incredible story of the world's most destructive earthquake.
